Al Shoemaker, Sr., 68, of Laurel, MS, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Forest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Born on Tuesday, October 23, 1956, in Laurel, Mississippi, Al was a beloved member of his community.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ava L. Gatwood Shoemaker, his son, Allen Shoemaker, Jr and wife Courtney, his daughter Shea Gibson and husband Corey, and his cherished grandchildren, Briggs Allen Shoemaker and Callen Blake Shoemaker. Al is also survived by his brothers, Gary Shoemaker and wife Janice, Pat Shoemaker and wife Michelle, Eddie Shoemaker and wife Elaine, and his sister, Lisa Shoemaker.

Al was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Shoemaker, and his mother, Patsy Ruth Poore Shoemaker.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 4:00PM at Sharon Cemetery in Laurel, Mississippi, with burial to follow. Rev. Jake Phillips will officiate the service. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel. Pallbearers will include Jim Kervin, Pat Townsend, Roger Welch, Adam Kirk, Chris Poore, and Chris Walker, with honorary pallbearers Nathan Brashier and Adam Gardner.
