Audrey Lee
Chesterman
December 28, 1953 – July 22, 2025
Audrey Lee Chesterman (Murray), a Corrections Officer and longtime resident of Laurel, MS, died on July 22, 2025, at the age of 71.
Audrey is survived by her children; Terresha McCord, Scott Pope, and Tomas Chesterman, her grandchildren; Brooke Waldo and Ashley Kennedy, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Linda Ekes.
Audrey was born in Laurel on December 28, 1953, to Orbey Murray and Ethel Camp. Audrey was raised in Laurel, grew up in Mt. Zion Methodist Church of Ellisville, and worked as a seamstress for multiple businesses in Laurel and Soso. In 1980 Audrey relocated to Texas where she lived and worked in and around the counties of Smith, Upshur, Anderson, Cherokee, and Fort Bend. There she worked as a seamstress in several businesses, including her own shop, a retail manager, an insurance saleswoman, and eventually as a corrections officer for Texas Department of Criminal Justice, from which she retired after 20 years of service.
Upon retirement, she returned home to Laurel where she cared for her mother, Ethel. Audrey enjoyed gardening, reading, watching westerns, and spending time over dinner with her family and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:00AM at Mount Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Ellisville, MS. Burial will follow in Mount Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Ellisville, Mississippi. Rev. Meredith McCord will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. 601-649-3342.
