Bret Ashley Evans, 64, of Laurel, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home of natural causes.

Born on April 5, 1962 in Joliet, Illinois, Bret was the son of the late Nathan Leo Evans, who proudly served as a law enforcement officer for 22 years with the City of Grafton in West Virginia and as United State Federal Marshall. Bret grew up with a strong sense of duty, hard work, and compassion that remained with him throughout his life.

Bret attended Grafton High School, where he participated in basketball and football and various other activities and clubs. He honorably served in the United States Navy from 1978 to 1986 in the aviation field.

Following his military service, he built a career in construction, working for Moore & Moore General Contractors of La Porte, Texas, and more recently with The Hendricks Company in Laurel, Mississippi.

Bret married Tammy Peterson and had two surviving sons, Bret Ty Evans and Logan Walter Evans of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; his stepson, Ryan Dalton Tuckey. He is also survived by his sisters, Sobra Sharane “Shari” Evans of Wellsburg, West Virginia and Sheena Evans Hunt of Grafton, West Virginia; and his cousin, Scott Elsey, also of Grafton; along with half-siblings, Erik Walter Evans and Nacole Lea Evans. He leaves behind many dear friends whom he lovingly referred to as “brothers” throughout the years.

Known for his warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering kindness, Bret touched countless lives. He dedicated much of his to time to volunteer work with The Hellfighters and their sister outreach program, Mission on the Cross, helping men rebuild their lives during difficult times. Whether through mentorship, encouragement, or acts of service, Bret consistently went above and beyond to help others in need.

Those who knew Bret will remember him as a loving father, loyal friend, devoted brother, and compassionate servant to his community. His strength, generosity, humor, and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.
