Obituary

David L. Ishee, age 60, of Vancleave, MS went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 28, 2024 while surrounded by his loving family at Ocean Springs Hospital.

Visitation will take place at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, MS on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 5:00-7:00 PM. Funeral will be Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Lebanon Baptist Church at 2:00PM with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of the arrangements. David was born in Laurel, MS on March 27, 1964 to parents Bill and Ruth (Gregg) Ishee. After graduating from West Jones High School in 1982, he went on to work for Winn Dixie Grocery Store and Smith International Oilfield Services before opening his own used car dealership. He served on the Board of the MS Independent Auto Dealers Association for several years.

While in high school, he met his wife Joni (Matthews), and they wed in September of 1985. Throughout their 38 years of marriage, they lived in Soso, MS and Vancleave, MS. In 1990, they had one daughter Meagan Smith (William).

David was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he attended throughout his childhood. He was saved and baptized in 1972. Over the years he also attended Salem Heights, Lebanon, and Vancleave Baptist Church.

A few of his favorite activities included fishing, cooking, and other outdoor sports. He could usually be found on the boat, working out at the gym, or spending time with his grandsons, Austin and Beaux.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ruth Ishee; his brother, Robert Ishee; and sister, Jeanie Gatlin.

He is survived by his wife, Joni Matthews Ishee; daughter, Meagan Smith (William); grandsons, Austin and Beaux; brother, Eddy Ishee; brother-in-law, John Gatlin; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Marty Cooley, Ken Johnson, Allen Padgett, DC Butler, Don Corley, and Austin Mathis.

David was deeply loved by his family and will be forever missed.
