Obituary

Dennis Wayne Johnson, 68, of Mount Olive, Mississippi, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born Friday, November 17, 1950 in Magee, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Taylorsville, Mississippi, and on June 19, 2019, from 9:00 AM until service time at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the burial will follow in Okahay Cemetery. Bro. Gary Robertson will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. (601) 785-6564

Dennis devoted 42 years to the Southern Pine Electric Co-operative where he made many friends and memories. He was an avid deer hunter, and he taught his children and grandchildren to love it, also. Dennis strove to live a simple life, loving God, his family and friends, music, westerns, and his dog. He will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, A. Dee and Lettie Pearl Johnson; his in-laws, Pat and Billye Duckworth; and his brother-in-law, Doyle Yeager.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years Sherry Johnson; his children, Melissa Hough and her husband Warren, Krista Robinson, and Justin Johnson; his Grandchildren, Brandon Stringer and his wife Ashleigh, Kaci Hough, Nikki Hough, Kylie Robinson, Jacob Hough, Kenzie Robinson, Bella Johnson, Great-grandchild, Karter Gable, and his siblings; Sylvia Yeager and Ann Blakeney and her husband Harold; Brother-in-laws, Richard Duckworth and his wife Freda and Dan Duckworth and his wife Rose and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be some of his Southern Pine co-workers Thomas McCallum, John Ainsworth, Mike Kennedy, Bruce Holder, Gary Lee Ricketson, Phillip Ricketson, David Layton, and Brandon Stringer.

Family request in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Summerland Baptist Church, Cause for Hope.
