Obituary

Dora Virginia Keyes Breland passed peacefully from this life surrounded by family on Sunday, November 27th, 2022, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, MS.

Mrs. Breland was born on October 14th, 1931, in Laurel, MS to Robert Leonard Keyes and Dora Virginia McRee Keyes. Mrs. Breland was married to Byron Breland, her loving husband of 62 years, on December 16th, 1950, in Laurel, MS. She was a homemaker whose entire life revolved around God and her husband and children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Breland, one son, Daryl Lynn Breland, and one granddaughter, Gretchen Lynn Breland. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Leonard Keyes, and Dora Virginia McRee Keyes, four brothers, James Keyes, Lavard Keyes, R. L. Keyes, and Billy Keyes, and one sister, Naomi Keyes.

Gin Breland as she was affectionately called, lived her life for Jesus and served him faithfully as a church pianist. Ironically, she would meet her future husband Byron in the very church where she played and they would be united in marriage there. Mrs. Breland was a devoted wife and mother who literally sacrificed her life for her family. She and Byron had six children: Ronald Byron, Daryl Lynn, Susan Naomi, Sharon Janet, Larry Earl, and Wesley Wendell. Virginia, along with her husband Byron, had their six children in church when they were babies still in diapers and continued to instill Godly values in them and encourage them to stay active in church throughout their lives.

Virginia loved her children unconditionally and would often say she wished they could have stayed little their entire lives, and that if she could raise them all over again, she would. She tirelessly cared for her sweet, precious children as she fondly called them.

Mrs. Breland was often described as a quiet, sweet, gentle soul who always displayed a Christ-like demeanor. Her life was the embodiment of a proverbs 31 woman. In fact, her life example was Proverbs 31:10 which asks: " Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. " Verse 28 proclaims: "Her children rise up and call her Blessed." Matthew 5:8 promises: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." We know without a doubt that Virginia Breland is seeing God, and has been reunited with all her loved ones who have gone on before. Forever in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her loving husband Byron.

Mrs. Breland is survived by her three sons, Ronald Byron Breland (Jackie) of Orange Beach, AL, Larry Earl Breland (Karen) of Unicoi, TN, Wesley Wendell Breland (Marla) of Hattiesburg, MS, and two daughters, Susan Naomi Breland of Laurel, MS, and Sharon Janet Lowery (Mike) of Laurel, MS. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Rev. Davy Fenton will be officiating the service, and pallbearers will be Mike Lowery, Shane Davis, Chris Breland, Jeremy Breland, Steve Breland, and Hal Rogers.
