Edward Keith Powell, 74, of Soso, Mississippi, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus with his family surrounding him on October 9, 2024. Born on January 2, 1950, at Masonite Hospital in Laurel, MS, Ed was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tillis Gandy and Bertha Mae Powell, and his brothers, Jimmy Powell and Allen Powell. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janice Powell, and their children, Jennifer Parker and Jamie (Emily) Powell. He was a proud grandfather to Tanner Parker, Logan Parker, Brayden Powell, Ben Powell, Sawyer Powell, Brandon Kilpatrick, and Mary Hannah Kilpatrick, and a great-grandfather to Weston Parker. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Seals, Mary McCraw, and Linda (Dinky) Parker, his brother, Joe (Latrice) Powell, and his sisters-in-law, Mary Sue Powell, Virginia Powell, and Linda (Mike) Wright, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Ed served in the Army Reserves and was a member of the American Legion. He dedicated over 30 years of his career to Drilco -Smith International, where he worked as a machinist, foreman, plant manager, and Operations manager. His faith and family were the cornerstones of his life, and he was known for his loving, kind-hearted, and gentle nature. A loyal friend to all, Ed was a great Christian man who never met a stranger.
The family extends their gratitude to Enhabit Home Health and Gentiva Hospice Teams for their exceptional care. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel, located at 4593 Indian Springs Rd, Laurel, MS. Funeral services will follow at 11:00AM at the same location, with burial at Union Line Cemetery in Soso, Mississippi. Bro. Justin Holifield will officiate, and Ed's nephews will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are under the care of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel.
