Emma Joy Powell, 90, of Laurel, MS, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Jasper General Nursing Home in Bay Springs, MS. Born on October 18, 1934, in Jones County, Mississippi, Emma lived a full and cherished life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Charles L. 'Bop' Smith and Joe Powell, her father Everett Hill, mother Valley Pitts Hill, brother Carson Hill, and sister-in-law Etoile Hill.

Emma is survived by her loving sons, Jamie Smith and his wife Nicole, and Greg Smith. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Kimberly Allen, Lexie Smith, Katelyn Stamper and her husband Ethan, Anna Claire Jones and her husband Dan, and Hope Smith. Her brother J. Benson Hill and sister Gloria Ellzey also survive her, along with her great-grandchildren, Cali Allen, Landyn Harper, Keegan Harper, Skyla Harper, Charlotte Smith, and Augustus Stamper.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel, located at 4593 Indian Springs Rd, Laurel, MS. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 PM at Salem Heights Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel, MS, where she will be laid to rest. Bro. Brent Benson will officiate the services. Arrangements are under the care of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel.
