Obituary

Frankie Jean Hicks 82, born June 2, 1943, in Laurel, MS, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Augusta, GA.

She dedicated her life to serving others, faithfully serving in ministry as a pastor's wife and working tirelessly in Christian education. She held various roles, including teacher, principal, and administrative positions. Most recently, she tutored, taught a sewing class, and taught piano lessons at Crestwood Christian Academy during the 2024-2025 school year. She was a member at The Rock Church of Laurel, MS.

Her legacy speaks volumes about her character: she was a prayer warrior, a steadfast hero of faith, a devout Christian, gracious, and always unwavering in her beliefs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie F. and Mae Dell Keyes of Myrick, MS; her sister, Charlene Shortridge of Meridian, MS; and her husbands: Harless D. Hicks of Laurel, MS (married 14 years until his passing in 2021), A.C. McNairn of Prentiss, MS (married 13 years until his passing in 2000), and John Joseph Maddox Sr. of Augusta, GA (married 23 years until his passing in 1985).

Frankie is survived by her three children: John (Betsy) Maddox Jr. of Stringer, MS; Mark (Robyn) Maddox of Augusta, GA; and Sheryl (Tom) Williams of Blue Ridge, TX; six stepchildren: Lisa (Jay) Yelverton, Sharon (Chris) Followill, David (Marlene) McNairn, Danny (Kelly) Hicks, Donny (Tonna) Hicks, and Doyle (Darlene) Hicks; as well as eight grandchildren: Trey Maddox, Caleb Maddox, Marcus Maddox, Matthew Maddox, Victoria Jones, Zachary Williams, Josh Williams, and Mandie Williams. She also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren.

Though she devotedly served everyone, her happiest moments were spent with her family. She cherished times around the table, sharing meals and playing games with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM at The Rock Church in Laurel, MS. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 PM, with burial at Myrick Cemetery in Myrick, MS, immediately afterward. Services will be officiated by her pastor, Rev. Jerry Rowley Jr.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and Asher Jones will serve as honorary pallbearer.

"Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." — Matthew 25:23
