Freddye Kay Warren, age 85, died quietly on July 16, 2026. Freddye Kay was born in Heidelberg, MS, an only child to Oliver Lightsey, Jr. and Freddie Louise Johnston Lightsey, Jr.on December 21, 1940. She attended elementary school and high school in Heidelberg and, following secretarial training at then Jones County Junior College,madeher lifelong home with her familyin Laurel, MS.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Lightsey, Jr. and Freddie Louise Johnston Lightsey, Jr., her youngest and dearly loved child Richard Edison (Eddie) Warren of Laurel, as well as the father of her three children and former husband, Richard Grady (Rick) Warren, also of Laurel.
Freddye Kay is survived by her daughters Marsha Warren of Somerville, MA, and Rhonda W. Reeves (Graham) of Ellisville, MS; her daughter-in-law Margie Easterling Warren (Eddie) of Laurel, MS; three grandsons, Christopher Warren (Amy) of Laurel, MS, Chad Warren (Ashley) of Bar Nunn, WY, and Alex Reeves (Swayze) of Madison, MS; and eight great grandchildren.
Throughout her long career, Freddye Kay held a variety of positions in business administration, from office management to bookkeeping. For many years, she worked as a legal secretary and was an active member of the then Jones County Legal Secretaries Association. During the final thirty-five years of her professional life, she owned and operated her own public accounting and tax preparation business.
While curiosity and a spirit of adventure colored Freddye Kay’s life, her deep love of family and unwavering faith in God were at its center. She will be deeply missed by her family and fondly remembered by all who knew her for a can-do attitude, fun-loving nature, and remarkable ability to bring laughter to those around her. In recent years, those gifts were especially appreciated by the nurses and aides who helped care for her.
Open visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., on July 21, 2026, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 4593 Indian Springs Road, Laurel, MS 39443. Burial will follow thereafter at Salem Heights Baptist Church Cemetery, 5850 Highway 84 West, Laurel, MS, 39443. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Freddye Kay’s life.
