Freeman O'Neil Walters Jr., 77, of Laurel, MS passed away Monday, February 26, 2024. He was born Tuesday, March 26, 1946 in Jones County, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel on 4593 Indian Springs Road. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. The burial will then take place in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Holder will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. 601-649-3342

Neil was an avid hunter and especially loved running his dogs and hunting rabbits. He enjoyed running bulldozers for a living, and had a special dozer that he affectionately called "Pat". Neil also raised longhorn cattle alongside his black mouth cur, Mirt.  Neil loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Freeman Walters, Sr.;  mother, Laverne Measelles Walters;  and a sister, Jo Dell  Stevens.

Survivors include his son, Jonathan Walters (Katherine); daughter, Anna Sims (David); sister, Janet Yelverton (Gary); grandson, Walter Sims; granddaughters, Vaylee Sims, Corrie Walters and Conlee Walters.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Walters, David Sims, Randy Norwood, Kent Hodge, Tim Yelverton, and Mark Yelverton.

Honorary pallbearer will be Stan Norwood.
