Howard Benton Speir's Obituary
Howard Benton Speir, 91, of Taylorsville, Mississippi, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at his home. He was born Friday, March 9, 1928 in Walnut Grove, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Sunday, June 9, 2019, from 8:00 AM until service time, at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville and the burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery. Bro. Sidney Davis will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. (601) 785-6564
Mr. Howard's family and friends knew him as a hardworking man that had a test for life. Howard was known for his long, entertaining stories, which he loved to, repeat often. He also loved history, especially anything pertaining to the Civil War, WWI, and WWII. He loved reading the Bible, and applying those stories and lessons to his everyday life. When Howard was a young man, he was in the Merchant Marines. That gave him the opportunity to travel and see different countries around the world. He retired from Georgia Pacific in his fifties.
He was preceded in death by his parents John & Vevie Speir; his sons, Glen Howard Speir & Robert Gregory Speir; his siblings, Norma Stewart, Thelma Brown, Tommy Speir, Ray Speir, Donald Speir.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years Bobbie Lou Blakeney Speir; his children; Jeff Speir and his wife Gina, Kathy Martin and her husband Vernon, Jennifer Wilson and her husband Eddie, Joseph Speir; his sister, Virginia Faye Wittmann and her husband Bob, 11 Grandchildren, 19 Great-grandchildren, 4 Great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Speir, Rodney Speir, Jr. McClellan, Eddie McClellan, Joey McClellan, and Jamie McClellan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Allen and Edwin Byrd.
