John Stanley Poore, 82 of Moss, Mississippi passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at his home. He was born on Tuesday, March 11, 1941, in Moss, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel, 4593 Indian Springs Road, Laurel, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Moss Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Moss, Mississippi. Bro. Alan McCord will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. 601-649-3342

John Stanley was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.  He was a champion with Super Stock X in several states.  He was listed in the South East Drag Racing Hall of Fame.  He was a member and former president of the Southern Cruisers in Bay Springs, Mississippi.  He enjoyed drag racing, building drag cars, fishing, but most of all grilling out and spending time with his family.  He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of thirty-two years, Gladys Nell Sinclair Poore; father, William Poore; mother, Ella Fair Boone Poore; one grandson; and brother-in-law, James Laird.

Survivors include his six children, Molly Johnson (Paul) of Ovett, MS, Amanda Hope Allred of Laurel, MS, Billy Wayne Shirley (Phyllis Touchstone) of Laurel, MS, Judy Carol Shirley (Kenneth Hopkins) of Laurel, MS, Kay Barry of Laurel, MS, and Janet Kiser (Charlie) of Magee, MS; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Ann Shelby (Joe Larry) of Moss, MS and Judy Laird of Laurel, MS; and a host of other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
