Johney Albert Massey, 84, of Laurel, MS, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, MS. Born on October 19, 1940, in Campbell, Arkansas, Johney was a beloved member of his community.
He was an avid deer hunter and loved to can, known affectionately as PawPaw by his family. After retiring, Johney dedicated his time to driving a school bus for Jones County Schools, touching the lives of many children.
Johney is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, ShermaJean Rogers Massey; his son, Chris Walters; daughters, Shauna Parrish (Kris), Lisa Bochicco, Tina Skeene (Mike), and Cindy Cochran (Tony); and his grandchildren, Michael Williams, Preston Parrish (Madison), Blake Williams, Kristen Walters, Michael Bochicco, Meisha Patterson (Mike), Shawn Skeene (Amber), Calina Wagie, Stephen Cochran, Janet Cochran, and Tanya Dixon (John). He also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Massey; his parents, Floyd and Josie Martin Massey; his grandchild, Shane Cochran; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Indian Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel, MS, with burial to follow. Bro Glenn McElhenny will officiate the service, and arrangements are being handled by Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel.
Pallbearers will include Kris Parrish, Michael Williams, Blake Williams, Preston Parrish, Tyler Anderson, Kennon Davis, Matt Davis, Michael 'Fence Row' Davis, and Chase 'Coyote' Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Rogers, Andrew Davis, Craig Winship, and members of the Myrick Hunting Club.
Johney will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
