Johnnie Edward Maxcey, 84, of Heidelberg, MS passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024 in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born Saturday, August 12, 1939 in Sandersville, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in 4593 Indian Springs Road, Laurel, MS. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in Laurel, MS. The burial will follow in Florence Methodist Church Cemetery in Sandersville, Mississippi. Bro. Jimmy Holder and Bro. Kenneth Smith will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. 601-649-3342
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Elizabeth Hartley Maxcey; father, Eddie Maxcey; mother, Cordelia Bush Maxcey; brothers, Paul Maxcey and Hilton Maxcey; brother-in-law, Curtis Ainsworth.
Survivors include his sons, Ron Maxcey (Rosie), Frankie Maxcey and John Kim Maxcey; daughters, Nina Ward Cruthirds (Danny), Hope Maxcey Johnson (Shane), Kristia Maxcey Rhodes (Larry), Shelia Maxcey Roberts and Brenda Maxcey Weaver (Matthew); brothers, William Maxcey, Jimmy Maxcey, Gail Maxcey (Charloette); sisters, Shirley Ainsworth, Dianne Maxcey and Ruby Spicer; grandsons, Jeremy Maxcey (Amie), Nathan Maxcey, Devon Maxcey, Dalton Cruthirds (Tori), Konner Rhodes, Martin Roberts, Corey Maxcey and Cody Maxcey; granddaughters, Ashley Maxcey, Rebecca Maxcey, Danielle Cruthirds, Gabrielle Maxcey, Heidi Patrick (Chandler), Kimberly Upton (Craig), Jill Smith (Brad), Ginger Owens (Shawn) and Rochelle Maxcey; 17 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, a special friend, Charlotte Green; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ashley Maxcey, Rebecca Maxcey, Gabrielle Maxcey, Wayne Rhodes, Nathan Maxcey, and Jeremy Maxcey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Konner Rhodes, Heidi Patrick, Danielle Cruthirds, and David Ishee.
