Kenneth Ray Scitzs, 84, of Soso, Mississippi, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Laurelwood Community Living Center in Laurel, MS. He was born July 31, 1937, in Laurel to Virgil and Clara Scitzs. He married Elizabeth "Ann" Hill on June 20, 1958, and together they had two children Teresa and Randy.
Visitation will be held 9:00AM to 11:00AM Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Colonial Chapel Laurel with funeral service at 11:00AM at Colonial Chapel Laurel in the chapel. Graveside services will be held at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Howard Parker and Dr. Dwayne Parker will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Scitzs worked for Georgia Pacific and retired as a supervisor. He served as minister of music for Leaf River Baptist Church in Collins, MS for fifteen plus years. He also was a creative craftsman- building and refinishing furniture, carving, and various types of woodworking. Mr. Scitzs enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and hunting throughout his life. In later years, he developed a love for creating artwork and playing dominoes and bingo with friends. He was talented musically, as well. He used his gifts of singing and playing piano to worship God and share with others. Above all, Mr. Scitzs loved the Lord and his family. He was a member of Moss First Church of God.
Kenneth R. Scitzs was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Clara Scitzs, and his wife Ann Hill Scitzs.
He was survived by his daughter, Teresa Pittman Hathorne (David), son, Randy Scitzs (Teresa), one sister, Billie Parker (Howard), grandchildren, Chance Pittman, Chad Scitzs (Lorrie), Katie James (Zachary), Caleb Scitzs (Macey), five great-grandchildren, Saylor Webb, Natalie Scitzs, Blake Pittman, Cruz Scitzs, and Brynlee Scitzs, his niece and nephew, Kim Maner (Bill), and Dwayne Parker, and four great-nieces and nephews, Bella, Causey, Merci, and Shaw Maner.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chance Pittman, Chad Scitzs, Caleb Scitzs, Zachary James, Bill Maner, and Causey Maner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gideons International.
