Lora Laverne 'Mamavern' Maddox, 74, of Laurel, MS, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, MS. Born on September 2, 1950, in Jasper County, Mississippi, Lora was a devoted member of Sandersville Baptist Church and cherished her faith and family deeply.

Known affectionately as 'Mamavern,' Laverne, alongside her husband Bill, opened their home and hearts to over 30 foster children throughout the years, embodying a spirit of compassion and care. Her love and dedication to helping those in need left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Laverne is survived by her husband of 44 years, William 'Bill' Maddox; her grandchildren, Kelly Maddox, Skyler Goff, Dylan Maddox, and over 30 foster children; and her brother, Larry Sullivan and his wife Julender.

She was predeceased by her sons, Danny Maddox and Alan Craig Maddox; her parents, Charlie Lewis Sullivan and Lora Belle Holdcroft Sullivan; her brothers, Norman Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan, Terry Sullivan, and Charles Sullivan; and her sister, Joyce Smith.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 1:00PM until 3:00PM at First Baptist Church of Sharon in Laurel, Mississippi, followed by funeral services at 3:00PM. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel.
