Marion Wesley Simpson, 91, Laurel, MS, passed away on May 3, 2024.
Wes was born on December 1, 1932, to William Wesley and Audrey Mae McIntosh Simpson in Cohay Logging Camp in West Central Smith County, Mississippi. Wes graduated from George S. Gardiner High School in 1951. Before continuing his secondary education, he worked at The Laurel Leader Call and Hattiesburg American.
Wes attended Millsaps College, Jones County Junior College and Mississippi State University, were he received his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Management. After graduating from Mississippi State University, Wes started his career at Masonite Corporation in Laurel. From there he joined the management team at Georgia Pacific for many years then finished his successful career as a Corporate Executive with Lazy Boy Chair Company. With such a strong work ethic, after retirement, Wes continued working with Enterprise Rental Cars. He loved his work and the friendships that were culminated over the years.
Wes met Iram Lola Nicholson in the summer of 1950 at a Sunday School class party at Bogue Homa Lake. They married on September 6, 1954, where they celebrated sixty-nine and half years. During this time Wes and Iram would welcome four daughters: Nicki Marion Leggett, Tracy Simpson Ford, Terri Simpson Walker, and Jami Simpson Laws.
Wes enjoyed his time attending Mississippi State ballgames. Everyone that knew him, knew his love for Mississippi State and following their football team! He was an avid golfer and enjoyed this time with lifelong friends, but nothing meant more to him than spending time with his wife, four daughters, son in laws, and seven grandchildren. Spending time and loving his family brought him the most joy in life. He attended most every event his grandchildren were a part of, and he had a special relationship with each one of them. He always shared his love of Christ with them, and he let them know how important and special time with family truly is.
Wes was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He touched the lives of so many people. He will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.
Wes and Iram are lifelong members of First-Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
Wes is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Wesley Simpson, his sisters Margie Simpson Smith (Haskel), Joyce Simpson Thames (Marzel) and his son in law James Luke Leggett.
Wes is survived by his loving wife Iram Nicholson Simpson, his four daughters Nicki Marion Leggett of Laurel, MS, Tracy Simpson Ford (David) of Ridgeland, MS, Terri Simpson Walker (Kevin) of Madison, MS, Jami Simpson Laws (Bill) of Columbus, MS and his seven grandchildren Chad Allen Dozier, David Roland Ford, Jr., Willam Chandler Ford, Peyton Iram Walker, Jack Holden Walker, Kyle Olivia Laws, and William Russell Laws, Jr.
Pallbearers are Chad Dozier, David Ford, Jr., Will Ford, Jack Walker, and William Laws, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Walker, David Ford, Sr., and Bill Laws.
Services will be held at First-Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel, MS on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:30am and a celebration of life service at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Lake Park Hills Cemetery in Laurel, MS. The family requests that memorials be made to First-Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel, MS.
