Martha Ann Rickerfor, 84, of Metairie, LA, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024, at Comfort Care Nursing Center in Laurel, Mississippi. She was born Tuesday, September 12, 1939, in Laurel, Mississippi, to Thyra Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Smith and Herman Edwin Smith.

As a graduate of George S. Gardiner High School and after completing two years of Jones Junior College, Martha proudly announced to her parents, "I am moving to New Orleans and Aunt Leona is expecting me to arrive soon." Thus, she moved away, secured a clerical position and soon met Ronald Henry Rickerfor whom she married and shared a happy life until his death in March 2023.

Martha was an exercise and health enthusiast, remaining fit and active into her last year of life. She was an avid runner, participating in events from the Laurel Day in the Park Run, the Mobile Azaela Trail Run, the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon, and New York City's Half Marathon, usually winning her age group. Martha also enjoyed swimming and organized exercise activities at Metairie JCC.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Henry Rickerfor of Metairie, LA; her parents and sister, Bennie Elizabeth Watkins all of Laurel, sister, Edith Carol Wilson of Baton Rouge; brother, Robert Edwin Smith of DeFuniak Springs, FL.

Survivors include her sister, Barbara Ellen Stone of Laurel; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the Hall 3 Staff at Comfort Care Nursing Center of Laurel for their excellent care of Martha.
