Mary Duett Shaw, a beloved member of the Laurel community, passed away peacefully at home February 9, 2025, at the age of 75. Born in Laurel on March 16, 1949, to John Henry Duett and Isabel Atkinson Duett, Mary led a life deeply rooted in her faith and dedicated her time to the people around her.

Mary loved life and found joy in being surrounded by her friends and family. Her home was often filled with the aroma of delicious cooked meals, laughter, and stories shared with those she loved. Cooking for her family and friends was not just a hobby for Mary but was an expression of love. She was known for her grace, compassion, and generosity and was extremely devoted to her family.

Mary is survived by her husband, Edward Shaw and her children William Ridgway III (Faith) of Brandon, Brandie Ridgway Jacobs (Don Malson) of Laurel, and Shannon Green (Timmy) of Blytheville, AR. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Steven Ayer, Jake Sheffield, Rhyan Driver, Daniel Ridgway, Ashlea Driver, Austin Ridgway, and Nancy Jacobs as well as four great-grandchildren. Mary has one sister, Dorothy Marie Wheelis of Laurel, and two nieces Sharron Smith of Laurel and Elizabeth Smith of Ellisville as well as many other family members that she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 9:00AM until 11:00AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in 4593 Indian Springs Rd, Laurel, MS. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 11:00AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in Laurel, MS. Dr. Jeff Clark and Daniel Ridgway will officiate.
