Mary Helen Simpson, 89, of Laurel, MS, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 19, 2026, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was born on April 28, 1937 in Taylorsville, MS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford Simpson; her daughter, Debra Russ; her parents, Steve and Lucille Jernigan. Her sisters Rachel Clark and Shirley Hester. Nephew, Willy Hall Junior. Nieces, Rhonda Hall and Kimberly Yates.

She is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Wanda Keyes. Her granddaughter Kerri Edwards (Andy). Her grandson, Kevin Ishee (Kusuma) and Jason Ishee. Great grandsons, Brayden Buckley and Jax Ishee. Great granddaughter, Josie Ishee. Sisters, Charlotte Mabry and Mattie Knight. Brother, Bobby Jernigan. She had a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews that she loved dearly.

Graveside services will be on Wednesday July 22, 2026, at 10:00AM at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel, MS.
