Michael William Tolbert
January 22, 1975 – October 16, 2026
Michael William Tolbert, 51, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, Mississippi.
Born on January 22, 1975, Michael was the son of Harvey Lee Tolbert and Mary Sue Ingram Tolbert Volking.
Michael devoted 18 years to law enforcement, proudly serving the communities in which he worked. After his law enforcement career, he worked as a supervisor at Georgia-Pacific in Taylorsville, Mississippi. He later joined Howard Industries, where he worked as a security guard.
Michael loved his family deeply and took great pride in his years of service as a police officer. He enjoyed grilling, boating on the Leaf River, and anything involving cars and trucks. After studying automotive body shop in vocational school, he developed a lifelong passion for modifying vehicles and making them uniquely his own. He also loved motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons, and in recent years enjoyed collecting firearms.
Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Michael loved to laugh, joke, and tell stories. He enjoyed talking with friends on the phone, but he was happiest at home, savoring home-cooked meals.
Above all, Michael cherished time spent with family and friends. He shared an especially close bond with his father. He was also blessed with four special friends whom he considered brothers: John Stringer, Johnny Smith, Ken Williams, and Ted Ducksworth.
Michael will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved him.
Michael is survived by his wife of nine and a half years, Angela Michele Tolbert; his daughter, Allison Presley Bates (Billy) and Katelyn Tolbert; and his son, Dakota Simpson.
He is also survived by his stepchildren Cayley Shedd (Casey), Sarah Brownlee (Casey Stewart), and Colby Brownlee, with whom he shared an especially close and loving bond.
Michael also leaves behind 2 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his father, Harvey Lee Tolbert; his mother, Mary Sue Ingram Tolbert Volking; his brother, Joseph Neil “Joey” Tolbert and many beloved Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles J. Tolbert and Florence Marie Tolbert; and other beloved members of his extended family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at Colonial Chapel of Laurel. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 11:15 AM at Logan Hill Cemetery in Laurel, Mississippi.
