Novoline DeRose Johnston, 90, of Laurel, MS, entered the arms of her loving Savior on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

She was a true Proverbs 31 woman who walked closely with God. Her Godly strength, wisdom, and grace flowed through the deep love she showed towards her family. Mrs. Johnston enjoyed crocheting for her family, blessing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with useful and fun creations she lovingly made and they will cherish. She enjoyed crafting, listening to Elvis, cooking, baking, and made several of her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s birthday and wedding cakes. She was a faithful member of North Laurel Church and a retired employee of the Jones County Health Department.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Pam) Johnston of Laurel and Brenda (Bryan) Pitts of Goose Creek, SC; son-in-law Larry Johnson of Laurel; grandchildren Melanie (Jonathan) Flowers of Laurel, Michael (Chelsa) Johnson of Ellisville, Corey (Brittany) Johnson of Summerville, SC, Shane (Julie) Johnston of Sharon, Justin (Illisia) Johnston of Sharon, Emily (Jamie) Potter of Moncks Corner, SC, and Calvin (Kayla) Pitts of Goose Creek, SC; great-grandchildren Jake (Haleigh) Flowers, Ty Flowers, Samuel Flowers, Makayla Johnson, MaKenna Johnson, Blakely Johnson, Elliana Johnson, Rase Johnston, and Rainie Pitts; sisters Jeanine Zimmerman of Ohio and Candace Gearheart of Georgia; and her faithful companion, her dog DEXTER.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Gary Johnston; daughter, Melinda Sue Johnson; parents, William and Grace Shaffer; and sisters, Delores Miller and Donna Mae Weiss.

Pallbearers are grandsons Michael Johnson, Corey Johnson, Shane Johnston, Justin Johnston, Jonathan Flowers, Jake Flowers, Ty Flowers, and Samuel Flowers.
