Obituary

Reba "Ontee" Sumrall Welborn, passed from this life to her eternal home with her Heavenly Father on July 12, 2024. Ontee was a virtuous woman and an example of Christianity for more than 97 years. She was born September 6, 1926 to Leon and Willie Cranford Sumrall of the Landrum community. On July 11, 1953, Ontee married the love of her life, Cal Welborn. The Lord blessed them with a son and a daughter. They lived and raised their family, a very large garden, and a herd of cows in the Shady Grove Community.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel on 4593 Indian Springs Rd, Laurel, MS. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM. A private graveside service will follow. Bro. Chris Sledge and Bro. Johnny Staples will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. 601-649-3342

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Calhoun Welborn, Jr; father, Thomas Leon Sumrall; mother, Willie Cranford Sumrall; brothers, Tommy Sumrall and Roland "Pat" Sumrall.

Survivors include her son, David Welborn (Cynthia);  daughter, Janet Staples (Ben);  grandchildren, Kyle White (Josh), Clint Welborn (Danielle), Jerod Staples (Leah), Jacob Staples (Shannon) and Abby Thaxton (Brandon);  great grandchildren, Dagan White, Eli White, Cooper White, Benjamin Staples, Lillian Staples, Caroline Staples, James Staples, Isaac  Staples, Kate Staples, Cameron Thaxton, Dallas Thaxton, Kruz Welborn, Macey Joiner and Eli Joiner;  nephews, Mike Sumrall and Tim Sumrall; special niece, Sherry Blackledge;  sister-in-laws, Faye Wolgamott and Gretchen Tanner.

Pallbearers will be Jerod Staples, Clint Welborn, Jacob Staples, Dagan White, Eli White, and Cooper White.

Honorary pallbearers will be Isaac Staples, Kruz Welborn, James Staples, and Benjamin Staples.

The family would like to thank her caregivers; Pat Tew Walters, Patricia Rowell, Eva Taylor, and her doctor for almost 50 years, Dr. Jack Evans as well as Comfort Care Hospice.
