Robert Edwin Lee Mitchell, Jr., 90, of Taylorsville, MS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at his residence. Born on January 10, 1934, in Jackson, Mississippi, Ed lived a full and accomplished life.

Ed proudly served in the Army in North Korea, where he developed a love for travel and storytelling. After his military service, he moved to Texas and worked as an Office Manager at a Loan Company in Bellaire. In the early 1970s, he relocated to Laurel, MS, where he worked as a surgical tech at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, Ed established his own business, American Petroleum Investments, in Laurel. Upon retirement, he settled in Taylorsville with his beloved Cockapoo, Ginger.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Edwin Lee Mitchell, Sr.; his mother, Mary Evelyn VanBuren Mitchell; and his sister, Marie Mitchell. He is survived by his son, Robert 'Robby' Mitchell; his daughter, Laura Lee Lyons and her husband Christopher; and his cherished grandchildren, Amber Lee Mott and Jonathan Eubanks.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Heavenly Pearl Health Care, especially caretakers Deneace Hicks and Lillie Henry, for their compassionate care and support.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel, located at 4593 Indian Springs Rd, Laurel, MS. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM at the same location. A private graveside service for the immediate family will take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Ed's life was a testament to dedication, service, and love for his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
