Obituary

Samuel Steven "Steve" Leggett, 74, from Ellisville, MS, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, after an extended recovery from an accident.  Steve, born on April 28, 1949, was raised by Samuel Lamar and Lavera (McDonald) Leggett in Ellisville, MS. At the age of 22, he married Debra Eubanks, and went on to raise 3 beautiful children, Sam, Jon, and Steve.

While serving as pastor to small churches, Steve worked as a welder in various places including Meridian, MS, and Mobile, AL. After an injury made him unable to work, he enjoyed living in places like Quitman, MS; Starkville, MS; Terre Haute, IN; and Sarasota, FL, before finally moving back home to Ellisville, MS. Steve was fantastic at fixing things. He loved fishing, photography, and reading Louis L'amour books. His spaghetti sauce and tomato gravy were absolutely delicious and often requested. He was completely delighted by his 9- grandchildren and loved watching them enjoy new experiences.

Steve is survived by his wife, Debra Gail (Eubanks) Leggett, sons Jonathan Lee (wife Jo) and Steven Lamar Leggett, daughter-in-law Kimberley D. (Boman) Leggett, brother Donald Mitchell (wife Judy) Leggett, sisters Barbara  (husband George) Harwell and Jane Marilyn Leggett, and grandchildren Jacob Kyle, Samuel "Jonathan", MaryRose Elizabeth "Rose", Alexander Lee "Xander", Deacon, Steven Edward, Marilyn Louise "Myn", Charles Causby "Charlie", and Titus Benjamin Leggett, and niece, Michelle Bowers and nephews Philip Harwell and Jeff Eubanks. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Lamar and Emma LaVera, sister Joan, son Samuel Wilburn, grandsons Ian and Bishop, and grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in 4593 Indian Springs Road, Laurel, MS. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 1:00PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel with burial to follow in Soules Chapel Cemetery in Moselle, Mississippi.

Bro. Kenny Morris will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. 601-649-3342.
