Wanda "Kay" Lyons, 73 of Laurel, Mississippi passed away July 22, 2024, at Landmark of Collins.

She was born September 27, 1950, in Laurel, MS. to Atley Nelson "Sam" Aycock and Mary Vaughnteen (Thornton) Aycock, who both predeceased her.

Kay attended Northeast Jones High School and often reminisced of her cheerleading days and love of her classmates.  Kay was a simple lady and enjoyed sitting on her porch on beautiful days admiring her beautiful roses.  She loved antiques and had a special talent for refurbishing furniture. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed perfecting and sharing recipes with others.

Kay was blessed with a loving marriage of 51 years to former Laurel Chief of Police and Justice Court Judge David P. Lyons, Sr., who predeceased her on December 23, 2023.

Kay was one of four children and dearly missed her deceased sister Brenda Beiderwell and her special cousin Joanne Gregory, as well as her stepfather Earnest Lee (Mutt) Norton with whom she shared a love of gardening.

She is survived by brothers, Elvin Aycock (Ginny) and Fred Aycock (Donna) of Georgia, as well as a host of nephews and nieces and their families.

Kay took great pride in being a homemaker and mother to her two sons, David "Davy" Paul Lyons, Jr. and Michael Wayne Lyons (Tiffani).  She was a proud grandmother to two grandchildren, Chloe and Carson Lyons.

Kay is also survived by her life-long friends, Melissa "Lisa" Ann Holifield and Tracey Lynn (Holifield) Hill who loved her dearly and assisted her during her times of need and made her days brighter.

A graveside service will be held at Myrick Cemetery, Laurel, MS on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 3:00 P.M.  Pallbearers will be friends and family. Jonathan McKenzie will officiate.  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. 601-649-3342.
