On Saturday January 3, 2026 William Lyon Herrington Sr., of Laurel, Mississippi, entered the gates of Heaven. Lyon was born on May 23, 1942, in Rose Hill, Mississippi. He lived a life defined by service, education, and devotion to family, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, discipline, and love.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 12:30PM until 2:00PM at Salem Heights Baptist Church in 5850 Hwy 84W, Laurel, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2:00PM at Salem Heights Baptist Church in Laurel, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Salem Heights Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel, Mississippi. Bro. Brent Benson and Bro. Mike Shirley will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. 601-649-3342.
Lyon proudly served in The United States Marine Corps from 1960-1964, an experience that shaped his character and instilled Values he carried throughout his life.
A dedicated scholar, Lyon graduated from George S. Gardner High School and went on to attend The University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a degree in Finance and Business, graduating with honors. His academic excellence was recognized with the prestigious Wall Street Journal Award.
Lyon's legacy as a charter and lifetime honorary member of Hellfighters Motorcycle USA is a testament to his unwavering dedication to both his community and his faith. From the very beginning, he embraced the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with everyone he encountered. Whether working tirelessly behind the scenes or mentoring young men and women, Lyon's compassionate spirit and steadfast commitment left a profound impact on those around him. His presence, although missed, will continue to resonate through the lives he touched, serving as an enduring inspiration for future generations.
Lyon was preceded in death by his parents, John Daniel and Lela Hudson Herrington; his brother, J.D. Herrington; and his nephew, Ricky Herrington.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sheila Graham Herrington; his sons, William Lyon Herrington II (Kelli), John David Gay (Theresa), his daughter Lisa Herrington; and his grandchildren, Connor Gay, Chloe Gay, Alexis (Trey) DeSantis, Ethan Wade, Brekke Gay, Myah Herrington, and Jacob Lyon Waller. He was joyfully anticipating becoming a great-grandfather to Hayes Charlton DeSantis, Niece Debbie Herrington Smith.
Lyon will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic where he had been employed at Headrick's Sign Co for over 58 years at the time of his passing. His influence and example will continue to guide those who loved him.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Wade, Jacob Lyon Waller, Connor Gay, Brekke Gay, Trey DeSantis, and Robert Barnes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sean Lubin, Don Hurst, Allen Langston, Bill Waller
