Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Taylorsville for Walter Louis Darden, 85 of Mount Olive, who passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his residence.

Brother Reese Douglas, Jr., Brother Jon Neal, and Brother Lavon Taylor will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Olive with military rites at graveside. Special music will be provided by Crystal and Jon Neal. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Taylorsville.

Pallbearers will be Ike Clanton, Danny Norris, Tony Darden, Jarrett Darden, Houston Cranford, Jacob Cranford, and Johnny Corley. Honorary pallbearers will be James Wilson, Sammy Corley, Glenn Bond, Billy McDaniel, and Jerry Gregg.

Mr. Darden was born on December 24, 1933 in Mize, Mississippi. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Darden retired from Southern Pine Electric as a foreman after forty years of service. He was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Darden was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class for Many Years. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Masonic Lodge Post#311 in Smith County. Mr. Darden was the lead guitarist for The Darden Family Band. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Alma Warren Darden; one son, Christopher Darden; two sisters, Myrtle Clanton and Timmie Darden; one brother J.D. Darden; and two nieces.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Virginia Gentry Darden of Mount Olive, one son, and daughter-in-law, Michael and Joanne Darden of Mount Olive; a daughter-in-law, Denise Darden of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, Stephen Darden and Stephanie Darden, both of Mount Olive; one sister, Minnie Farnham of Monticello; a host of step grandchildren, and two adopted with love children, Lisa and Ray Hollingsworth of Mount Olive.
